About this spot

This religious congregation hall in Kurikoshi, Emukae, Sasebo City, was founded in 1967 (Shōwa 42) based on a divine revelation received by its founder, Yasutomi Myōju. It carries on the teachings of Shinto-Buddhist syncretism, enshrining Kuon Tenryū-hime Ōkami as its main deity, together with Hachiman Ōkami and Tenman Tenjin Ōkami. Scattered across the spacious grounds are the Tenryū-ga-taki waterfall, the Shinri-den hall, Tenryū-in, which enshrines Fudō Myōō, and a hilltop worship hall. On the day of the festival, the daytime hours here are still quiet. Take a moment to pause as the start of your journey, before the night's Thousand Lanterns and fireworks.

Tips

Within walking distance of Emukae-Shikamachi Station on the Matsuura Railway. Admission is free. On the festival day, traffic restrictions may be in place on nearby roads from evening onward, so it's reassuring to check parking locations and restriction details in advance via Sasebo City's official announcements.
