The Obasute Rice Terraces (姨捨の棚田) spreading across the mountainside of Chikuma City is a premier scenic location representing Shinshū, designated as a nationally important cultural landscape. Known as "Tagoto no Tsuki" (田毎の月—"Moon in Each Paddy"), it has long been celebrated in classical poetry for the enchanting beauty of moonlight reflecting in each individual terrace. From the observation platform, the broad vistas of Zenkoji Plain and the Chikuma River stretch out, making the famous panorama known as one of Japan's three greatest train-window views fully enjoyable even in daylight. Viewing the brilliantly green summer terraces and the flow of the Chikuma River—where fireworks will light up tonight—from this high vantage creates a sense that the day's story comes together as one. With Shinshū's majestic nature as the backdrop, it's an ideal location for family commemorative photos.

信州千曲市千曲川納涼煙火大会は、戸倉上山田温泉千曲川河畔の大正橋から万葉橋の間を会場に開かれる、長野県を代表する夏の花火大会です。約10,000発の花火が次々と夜空に打ち上がり、山あいの盆地に音が反響して体の芯まで響く大迫力。千曲川の静かな川面に映る逆さ花火の美しさも、川沿いならではの名物です。温泉地の情緒ある夜景を背景に、信州の夏の夜空を彩る光の競演は、フィナーレの連発が空と川を丸ごと照らすクライマックスまで目が離せません。川のせせらぎと花火の音が重なる1時間30分は、都会では味わえない信州ならではの夏の記憶になります。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は千曲市または大会公式の発表で事前に確認しましょう。終了後は周辺の道路や駐車場が大変混み合います。フィナーレ後は河畔で少し余韻を楽しんでから時間差での帰宅がおすすめ。しなの鉄道・戸倉駅方面への帰り道は足元が暗い箇所があるため、小さなライトを携帯すると安全です。

Tips

From Shinano Railway Obasute Station (信州鉄道・姨捨駅), it's about a 10-minute walk to the observation platform. By car, you can use parking spaces near the observation platform. Wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on the terrace paths. Please refrain from entering the rice paddies to help preserve them. During summer daylight, the sun is intense, so bring a hat and water.
