The National Innovative Fireworks Challenge Cup is a competition-format fireworks festival where fireworks creators from all over Japan compete by creating and displaying new innovative fireworks. Creatively rich fireworks, not bound by existing standard fireworks, light up the night sky above Lake Suwa one after another. Lake Suwa, positioned at an altitude of 759 meters, is surrounded by a basin, and sound echoes off the surrounding mountains - a powerful acoustic experience is one of the festival's attractions. The beauty of reflected fireworks in the lake surface is another highlight unique to an inland lake. In 2026, four preliminary rounds are planned for September 5, 12, 19, and 26, allowing you to see new fireworks creators' challenges every weekend.

Always check official information in advance for the event time (time to be determined). Also check official announcements for cancellations due to bad weather. After the event ends, the road to JR Kaminosuwa Station becomes extremely crowded, so it's recommended to enjoy the lingering atmosphere at the lakeside for a while and return home at a staggered time. The night air around Lake Suwa in September gets cold, so be sure to bring warm layers.
