Swimming Until Sunset on a Shallow, White-Sand Beach Protected by Black Pine Groves

About this spot

Ago no Matsubara Beach is a beautiful beach in Ago-chō, Shima City, featuring a striking contrast between black pine groves and white sand. Open from July 18 (Saturday) through August 31 (Monday) 2026, the gently sloping shallow beach with calm waves is safe for young children to enjoy. The pine groves that inspired the beach's name provide welcome shade from the intense summer sun, and are perfect for resting with your beach towel. About 3 beach houses operate on the beach, offering light meals, rest areas, and shower facilities. Two free-to-use restroom facilities are available, and beach wheelchairs are provided, making it an accessible beach where the whole family can comfortably spend a full day.

Tips

Swimming is free, but parking and showers are fee-based. While the pine groves provide convenient shade for rest, the sand itself gets quite hot in summer, so beach sandals are essential. With limited beach houses, it's advisable to secure a rest spot early during busy periods. Plan to leave around 4:45 PM to allow time for changing clothes.

Best time to visit

After 1 PM in the afternoon, the sun's intensity eases, creating a perfect time window to enjoy swimming until sunset.
