About this spot

Magose Pass (馬越峠) is a section of the Kumano Kodo (熊野古道) registered as part of the World Heritage Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range (紀伊山地の霊場と参詣道), known for its beautiful moss-covered stone paving and cedar groves. Walking the entire pass takes several hours, but the area near the entrance is flat and easy to walk, and even a 10 to 20 minute stroll gives you a solid taste of the old road's atmosphere. Walking through dappled sunlight in the clear morning air quietly settles your mood for the day ahead. It is recommended as a quiet interlude before playing hard at the pool.

Tips

There is parking space near the entrance. The stone paving is slippery on rainy days, so depending on the weather, do not push it and keep the stroll short. Insect repellent spray is reassuring to have.

Best time to visit

Takes 20 to 30 minutes. The morning, before the temperature rises, is recommended
