View the natural monument rocks carved by the waves
About this spot
A distinctive rock shelf born of wave erosion, spreading right beside Aoshima Beach (青島海水浴場). The name comes from how the layers of plate-like rock resemble a washboard, and it is designated a national natural monument and place of scenic beauty. You can also enjoy the view from Yayoi Bridge (弥生橋) on the approach leading to Aoshima Shrine (青島神社), and at low tide the expanse of rock appears even larger. Some footing is slippery, so strolling in sandals is recommended. Before sea bathing, start by observing this mysterious landscape created by nature together as a family.

宮崎市街地から南へ約8km、国の名勝・天然記念物「鬼の洗濯板」に囲まれた青島にある海水浴場です。2026年は7月3日(金)から8月30日(日)まで開設され、遊泳時間は9時から17時まで。入場は無料で、更衣室や温水シャワー(有料)、コインロッカーが整い、監視員が常駐する青島ビーチセンターもあるため、小さな子ども連れでも安心して過ごせます。すぐそばに青島神社や鬼の洗濯板といった見どころが揃い、海水浴とセットで観光も楽しめるのがこのビーチの魅力です。波打ち際での水遊びから砂のお城づくりまで、夕方まで思いきり夏を満喫しましょう。
Tips
遊泳は無料ですが、更衣室と温水シャワーは有料です。小銭を用意しておくとスムーズです。遊泳時間は17時までなので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめ。夏休み期間は駐車場が混み合うため、公共交通機関の利用も検討を。
Tips
It is located right by Aoshima Beach (青島海水浴場) and can be viewed along the approach to Aoshima Shrine (青島神社). The rocks are slippery when wet, so holding small children's hands is reassuring. Checking the low tide times in advance lets you see a wider stretch of the rock shelf.
