Next stop: A history walk and a rest in Morioka's symbolic park of surviving stone wallsAbout this spot
A park with a much-loved pond spreading north of central Morioka (盛岡). Well-maintained paths run around the water, and you can walk slowly choosing the shade — just the right distance for a warm-up before the pool. Swans and other waterfowl rest their wings on the pond, and a stroll with the water in view is popular with small children too. Known also as a cherry blossom spot, it is a place of rest for locals in every season. Visiting in the cool morning hours before the pool opens makes for a quiet, pleasant walk.
Tips
There is a car park, so the park is easy to visit by car. You can walk a full circuit of the pond, and most of the route is stroller-friendly. In summer, a morning walk before the sun strengthens is recommended, and do not forget to keep hydrated.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The morning, while the sun is still gentle, is most comfortable
