About this spot

A boardwalk along the Shinmachi River with open benches overlooking the water and sheltered pavilions scattered throughout, lined with local restaurants. The area features Tokushima specialties like fish cutlets and Sanuki-style udon, along with seafood restaurants—perfect for a pre-beach meal. The river breeze is pleasant, and families can dine peacefully even with children. Nearby, the "Hyōtan Island Pleasure Boat" (ひょうたん島遊覧船) departs from this area, so if you have extra time, you can enjoy views of the water surrounding Tokushima city from the boat. Fill up your stomach here before heading to the sea.

Tips

From Awa Odori Kaikan, you can reach here on foot or by taxi. During summer, the outdoor boardwalk can have strong sun exposure, so choosing a restaurant with indoor seating is recommended. Since you'll drive to the beach, double-check for forgotten items before departing after lunch.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes required. Arriving for lunch around noon avoids crowds.
