This lakeside swimming spot on Lake Biwa in Makino-cho, Takashima City, will be open in 2026 from Wednesday, July 1 to Monday, August 31. The shallow, gently sloping sandy beach has calm waves, with none of the tidal changes or salty sea breezes you'd find at the ocean, so families with small children can enjoy playing in the water with peace of mind. It features parking for about 300 regular cars, making it easy to visit by car. Surrounded by the lush, green mountains of Takashima, it's a popular beach where you can enjoy lake swimming and natural scenery at the same time. Make the most of splashing in the shallows and playing in the sand until evening.

Tips

Swimming is free, but parking costs 1,200 yen per day for a regular car. The sun is strong on the summer sand, so bringing a beach umbrella, sun shade, and sandals will keep you comfortable. Shops and facilities can vary by season, so it's reassuring to bring your own drinks and snacks.

Best time to visit

The afternoon from just after 1 pm has slightly softer sunlight, giving you plenty of time to play in the water until evening.
