About this spot

A small uninhabited island off the coast of Ariake Town, Amakusa City, where a rare sandy path extends to the sea when the tide goes out, allowing you to walk across. The small pine-covered island silhouette and the Ariake Sea scenery beyond it are full of the peaceful atmosphere typical of Amakusa. Whether the sandy path is passable depends on tidal conditions, so it's essential to confirm by sight whether the path has appeared before crossing. The short walk to the island gives children a sense of adventure, and is just right for some physical activity before swimming.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Shiro-ga-hama Beach. The sandy footing mixed with shells makes sturdy walking shoes more comfortable than sandals. As the tide comes in, water will reach your feet, so return early once you've crossed.

Best time to visit

Takes about 1 hour. Crossing during low tide in the morning makes the sandy path wide and easy to walk.
