Next stop: Lunch on Amakusa's seafood at a fresh-fish market and eatery in Suomoto-machiAbout this spot
These are the ruins of a medieval castle remaining on a hilltop in Tanasoko, Kuradake-machi, where Ebisu Beach is also located. Set in a spot with sweeping views over the Amakusa inlet, it's said to have once served as a key lookout point over the sea. Today it's maintained as a green open space, and is a spot loved by locals for the calm, quintessentially Amakusa sea views you can enjoy while strolling. It's also a good time to get a bit of exercise in before swimming. Take a look from the hilltop, together with the kids, at the sea you're about to swim in.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Ebisu Beach. Some areas underfoot are grass or dirt, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. There's little shade to block the sun, so bring a hat and something to drink.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. Mornings before swimming are relatively quiet.
