A hilltop roadside station symbolizing Shodoshima Island, Japan's birthplace of olive cultivation. Expansive olive groves cover the slopes, and the white Greek windmill—built to commemorate a sister-island relationship with Milos Island (ミロス島), Greece—frames views of the blue Seto Inland Sea creating a Mediterranean-like landscape. A popular photo spot is the "magic broom" available free for loan: jump in front of the windmill for pictures that capture the illusion of flight, perfect for couple's photography. Restaurants and cafés in the park serve olive and herb-infused dishes, while the gift shop overflows with olive oil, herbal cosmetics, and adorable souvenirs. Tips

Free parking available. The magic broom is free to rent but limited in number, so expect queues at the windmill for photos—allow extra time. The hilltop has little shade, so a hat is recommended.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes. Early to mid-afternoon offers the most vivid blue skies and sea, making windmill photos most striking.
