Stroll the Historic International Trade Port and Build Excitement for the Sea

About this spot

Located at the southern end of the Shimabara Peninsula in Minamiashigara, Kuchinotsu Port is a historic port that flourished as a coal transshipment hub during the Meiji period, with many foreign ships coming and going. Today, it serves as the departure point for ferries connecting to Onikike Port in Amakusa City, Kumamoto, supporting the region's daily life. From the port, you can see the Amakusa Islands across the sea, and walking in the crisp morning air while feeling the sea breeze is a delight. As you gaze at the same sea you'll visit at Shirahama Beach, leisurely soak in the atmosphere of this historic port town at the start of your day.
