Located between Keihan Uji Station and JR Uji Station, at the base of Uji Bridge, this street extends toward the Byodo-in approach and serves as the gateway to Uji tourism. Long-established tea shops line the street, offering an abundance of matcha-flavored treats—soft serve ice cream, tea dumplings, matcha parfaits—perfect for eating while you walk. Shops along the street also sell direct-from-producer tea and souvenirs, creating an atmosphere filled with the aroma of tea that typifies Uji. On the night of the fireworks, the area will be crowded, so we recommend enjoying the scent and taste of tea leisurely during this time.

Tips

About 3 minutes on foot from Keihan Uji Station, or about 10 minutes from JR Uji Station via Uji Bridge. Matcha sweet shops often have lines, so arriving early ensures a more relaxed experience. Purchase souvenirs during this time and travel light for the rest of your walk.

Best time to visit

Allow about 45 minutes. Visiting right after stores open means shorter lines and more leisurely browsing.
