About this spot

A mountain castle ruin built during the Nanboku-cho period, known during the Sengoku period as the seat of the Akai clan and as the stage of Akechi Mitsuhide's campaign into Tanba. Part of the stone walls remain at the summit, about 356 meters above sea level, offering a view over the mountains of Tanba, but even a stroll from the foot of the mountain alone is enough to fully feel the atmosphere of this historic land. Amid the quiet of the lush, mountain-flanked surroundings, you can spend a moment reflecting on Tanba's Sengoku-period history.

Tips

The trailhead, within walking distance of JR Kuroi Station, is the starting point. Since proper hiking gear is recommended for reaching the summit, families are advised to limit themselves to a stroll around the foot of the mountain. In summer, do not forget insect repellent and something to drink.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. From morning to early afternoon tends to be relatively cool and easy for walking
