About this spot

This is the 36th Kumano Kodo Kiyohime Festival, held from 18:00 on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Nakahechi Wakamono Plaza. The stage features dances, songs, and taiko drumming, while the venue is lined with night stalls and kitchen cars. You can also enjoy fire department demonstrations, including a ladder truck and ambulance display and a chance to try on firefighting gear. The highlight is a scene in which a giant serpent, based on the legend of Anchin and Kiyohime, parades through the venue breathing fire from its mouth. Ending a full day of walking the old pilgrimage route with this festival makes for a fitting close to the trip.

Since the venue is in a mountain area, evenings can be colder than you might expect. Check in advance whether the event will proceed in case of bad weather. The path can be dark on the way back, so bringing a light is recommended.
