This crafts hall is located in Ogawa-machi, known for Hosokawa-shi (細川紙), a nationally designated traditional craft. Inside, alongside exhibits of traditional crafts from around Saitama Prefecture, there is a corner where you can actually try making washi paper, letting families try their hand at creating a one-of-a-kind sheet of paper. It's a spot unique to this town where you can experience the depth of Ogawa washi, a craft with a 1,300-year history.

Tips

Washi paper-making sessions are accepted on a same-day, walk-in basis, so it helps to check the required time in advance. In many cases, the paper you make is dried and can be taken home, so follow the staff's instructions on the day.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Mornings through midday tend to be relatively uncrowded and easier for trying the experience.
