Yatadera Temple (矢田寺, Kongosanji)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This old temple, known for Jizo worship, spreads across the mid-slope of the Yata Hills (矢田丘陵). The grounds are wrapped in lush trees, and their calm atmosphere lets you feel a cool mountain breeze even in summer. Climbing the stone steps of the approach while visiting a number of halls makes for a pleasant stroll in itself. It's a perfect spot to catch your breath before the evening fireworks, in quiet grounds far from the bustle.

Tips

Access by bus from Kintetsu Koriyama Station is convenient. The grounds have many slopes and steps, so visit in comfortable walking shoes. A voluntary donation may be requested for visiting.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Afternoons, when the trees are at their greenest, are cool and easy to walk in.
