Said to be the remains of a mountain castle built in the medieval period, the site is now maintained as a walking trail that makes the most of the hill's greenery. Climbing the tree-lined path leads you to a spot with a fine view over the Sendai Plain. Its appeal lies in the calm atmosphere, not overly commercialized, where you can quietly sense local history. Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社), where fireworks will be launched tonight, is also near the foot of this hill, so you can head straight to the festival venue after your walk.
Tips
Accessible on foot from JR Iwakiri Station (岩切駅). The walking trail has some ups and downs, so wear comfortable shoes. There are many insects in summer, so insect repellent spray is reassuring to have.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 30 minutes. As evening approaches, the sunlight softens, making it easier to walk.
