About this spot

A historic Rinzai Zen temple said to have been opened in 1336 and is also known for having the mausoleum of Tokugawa Yoshinao, the first lord of the Owari Tokugawa clan. The temple grounds are enveloped in a deep forest with the sound of a babbling stream, creating a cool and pleasant atmosphere. From the main hall at the top of the stone steps, you can view a quiet landscape surrounded by green. Even during the hot summer hours, there is plenty of shade, making it a perfect spot for the family to take a breather.

Tips

About 10 minutes on foot from JR Chuo Main Line Teikoji Station. Entry to the temple grounds is free. Since there are stone steps and mountain paths, it's best to wear comfortable walking shoes. Insects are common in summer, so it's wise to take bug spray precautions.
