A historic pass exceeding 1,600 meters elevation located on the border between Nagano and Gifu prefectures. Formerly a route connecting Hida and Shinshuu, many travelers once passed through, and from the pass you can expand your view to majestic mountain ranges including the Hida Mountains. Even in summer, cool wind blows through due to the high elevation, allowing you to feel mountain air completely different from urban areas. Walking the pass, you'll feel the weight of history carved into this land.
Tips
About 30 minutes by car from Nagawa District center. The pass road has many curves, so drive carefully. At high elevation, bring layers even in summer.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. In the clear afternoon air you can see distant mountain ranges.
