About this spot

Himeji's main thoroughfare runs straight from Himeji Station to Himeji Castle. Both sides of the street are lined with restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops where you can try local specialties on foot. The open vista with the castle's white keep visible straight ahead instantly sets a cheerful mood for your Himeji stroll. The wide, well-maintained sidewalks make it easy to walk, even with a stroller. Get your lunch and souvenir shopping done early before heading to the castle.

Tips

Just steps from the north exit of JR Himeji Station. Restaurants get crowded around mealtimes; shifting your time slightly can help you get seated more easily. Consider depositing souvenirs at the station's coin lockers to travel light for sightseeing.

About 1 hour 15 minutes. The strong midday sun leaves little shade on this street, so a hat is recommended.
