About this spot

This roadside station (michi-no-eki) sits in the center of Okoppe-cho, facing the Sea of Okhotsk, and also serves as tonight's summer festival and fireworks venue. Inside, a direct-sales corner offers locally grown produce, seafood, and dairy products, and simply browsing the lineup unique to this ranching town is enjoyable in itself. There's also a light-meal corner, making it a perfect place to fuel up at the start of the day. Since this same spot transforms into the fireworks viewing venue at night, it's worth getting a feel for the layout and atmosphere of the grounds during the day.

Tips

Located in the town center, access is mainly by car. The parking lot gets crowded from the evening of the festival day onward, so stopping by during the daytime lets you look around at a relaxed pace. Restrooms and rest areas are well maintained, so it can serve as a base for the day.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. Just after opening, from morning through early afternoon, is relatively calm for browsing.
