About this spot

This is the mouth where the Okoppe River (興部川), which flows through the town center, empties into the Sea of Okhotsk. The scene where the river's current meets the sea's horizon is small in scale but quiet and open, and visiting in the evening lets you take in the changing colors of the sky at leisure. Wild birds sometimes appear along the water's edge, and spending time listening to the sounds of nature makes for a good break before heading into the bustle of the festival.

Tips

Within walking distance of Okoppe Fishing Port, or a few minutes by car. Some parts of the embankment and riverside can be slippery underfoot, so hold your child's hand while walking if traveling with small children. Insects can appear in the evening, so insect repellent is reassuring to have.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. As sunset approaches, the changing colors of the sky are especially beautiful.
