A community-focused fireworks display held at Kamegawa Fishing Port in Beppu, now in its 38th year. Over the one hour from 20:00 to 21:00, about 5,000 fireworks shells launch one after another into the night sky, creating a beautiful scene as their light reflects on the surface of Beppu Bay. In addition to its scale, part of the charm of this summer festival's fireworks, long cherished by locals, is its warm, homey atmosphere. Enjoy the sound of the fireworks echoing along with the sea breeze, gathered close together as a family.

Tips

The event goes ahead in light rain, but in case of severe weather it will be postponed to Monday, August 3 or Wednesday, August 5, so check the organizer's announcement on the day. Roads around the area get very crowded after the event ends, so it's a good idea to linger a while and leave at a staggered time.
