The Furusato Fireworks Festival, which colors the local summer, is held at the Roman Valley (ローマン渓谷) in the Fukuoka district of Nakatsugawa City. For 30 minutes starting at 8:00 PM, about 800 fireworks launch one after another into the night sky over the mountain-ringed valley. The sound of the fireworks echoes off the surrounding mountains, giving it a powerful resonance quite different from a fireworks festival in the city. Take your time enjoying this community-rooted display, filled with the handmade warmth of the people of the Fukuoka district.
