An ancient temple said to be where Sesshu, the Muromachi-era ink-wash painter, spent his boyhood. It is also known for the legend of the mouse he drew with his tears, and its grounds hold a historic three-story pagoda and main hall. The lush, green grounds are wrapped in quiet, letting you stroll slowly while feeling the weight of history. It's a place where you can experience firsthand the origin of the name behind the Soja Citizens' Festival's ‘Sesshu Festa.’

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Soja Ohashi Bridge. Please observe quiet manners while visiting the grounds. There is plenty of shade in summer, making it easier to tour despite the heat.
