About this spot

A mansion built by a wealthy merchant who made his fortune mining iron sulfide ore and copper in the late Edo period—the raw materials for bengar production. The mansion structure, with its multiple layers of stone walls rising up the mountainside, resembles a castle fortress and commands awe. This unique landscape, which has served as a film location, is a must-see when visiting the Fukiya area.

Tips

About 10-15 minutes by car from Fukiya Furusato Village. There are stairs and slopes leading to the mansion, so wear comfortable shoes. Viewing hours vary by season, so check ahead for peace of mind.
