About this spot

This is a prefectural road running about 1 kilometer straight from Hitachi Station to National Route 6, known by the citizen-given nickname Heiwa-dori (Peace Avenue). It opened in 1951 as part of postwar urban reconstruction, and about 120 Somei Yoshino cherry trees line the road, which, together with Kamine Park, has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. Running through the center of Hitachi City, it's easy to reach the Kawarago area, where the fireworks festival is held, and a convenient place to pick up dinner along the way.

Tips

Within walking distance of Hitachi Station. It can get crowded in the evening on the day of the fireworks festival, so it's a good idea to stop by earlier.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour needed. Easy to walk in the early evening as it starts to cool down slightly
