About this spot

A coast facing the Sea of Japan, beautiful for the contrast between its white sand beach and emerald-green sea. It's also known as the coast visited by Lafcadio Hearn (小泉八雲) and his wife on their honeymoon in 1891 (Meiji 24), and in winter, hundreds of black-tailed gulls soar overhead. Operation as a swimming beach was discontinued in 2021, and it's now a spot where you can walk quietly along the shore. Before heading to the evening fireworks, spend some relaxed family time taking in the scenery of the Sea of Japan while it's still light.

Tips

Some areas underfoot can be slippery, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Sea breezes can pick up in the evening, so it's reassuring to bring something to layer on.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Evening is a beautiful time to watch the sun set over the Sea of Japan.
