About this spot

Known affectionately as 'Blue Beach Nachi,' this swimming beach spreads out right next to JR Nachi Station. Its roughly 800-meter stretch of white sand makes it one of the largest beaches in Wakayama Prefecture, and it has earned the top 'Tokusen' rating in the Ministry of the Environment's 'Top 100 Swimming Beaches' selection. Changing rooms and showers are also available. As the venue for the fireworks festival, this beach gradually fills with people from evening onward. Enjoy a takeout dinner while looking out over the calm sea, and relax until the show begins.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from central Nachikatsuura's main shopping street. Since the show starts late, the wait can be long. It's a good idea to bring insect repellent and something to layer on.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes needed. The cooler hours after sunset are the most comfortable
