About this spot

One of Japan's three Monju temples, this ancient temple preserves the Rokugō Manzan culture of the Kunisaki Peninsula. Known as a temple that grants wisdom, the steep stone steps of the approach that continue up the mountainside are challenging to climb, but once you reach the top, a spectacular view unfolds overlooking the mountains and sea of Kunisaki. The scenery of the inner sanctum built clinging to the rock face is also a must-see. Visiting as a family, encouraging each other along the way, becomes a cherished memory in itself.

2026年8月15日(土)開催、武蔵港沖を会場にした第53回むさしの里の夕涼み夏の夜まつりのクライマックスです。約4,000発の花火が周防灘の夜空を彩り、海面に映る光の帯とともに国東半島の夏を締めくくります。漁港のある海辺という立地のため、花火をさえぎるものが少なく、家族みんなでゆったり観覧できるのが魅力です。潮の香りと夜風とともに味わう、開放感あふれる花火の夜です。

Tips

荒天時は中止や延期の可能性があるため、当日は国東市の公式発表を確認しましょう。終了後は道路が混み合うため、少し時間を置いてから帰路につくのがおすすめです。海辺は足元が暗いので懐中電灯やスマホのライトを準備しておくと安心です。

Tips

There is a distance from the parking lot to the approach; wear comfortable walking shoes as the stone steps are numerous. In summer, there are sections with little shade, so don't forget to hydrate. Small children can enjoy the experience by visiting partway without overexertion.
