About this spot

This hot spring facility, part of the Shin-Gokayama Onsen (新五箇山温泉) nestled in the mountains of Gokayama, has separate large indoor baths and open-air baths for men and women, a sauna, a lounge, and a restaurant. From the open-air bath you can gaze at the emerald-green water and the overlapping mountains beyond it. At the restaurant Hyotan (ひょうたん), you can enjoy dishes made with seasonal ingredients. It is a good time to soothe legs tired from strolling in the hot water, watch the mountain village dusk, and relax at leisure ahead of the evening's fireworks.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Michi-no-Eki Taira. The foot bath alone can be enjoyed easily, but if you wish to bathe, bring a towel. It can get crowded from evening on the day of the festival.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes needed. The foot bath at dusk feels especially pleasant.
