About this spot

Okata is Kawa no Eki Shun no Aji Okata (川の駅 旬の味 おか多), a restaurant standing on the banks of the Neogawa. Its signature dish is seasonal ayu (sweetfish), grilled to order over local charcoal, salt-grilled one fish at a time, along with sashimi, akani (river fish simmered in a reddish sauce), and other ways to enjoy river fish, plus duck hot pot and wild boar hot pot in season. As evening approaches, people start gathering on the Neogawa riverbed to wait for the fireworks. Once you've filled up, spread out a picnic sheet to secure your spot, and take it easy while watching the sky's colors change as the sun sets.

Tips

It's recommended to secure your spot early. The surrounding roads get crowded from evening onward, so if coming by car, allow plenty of travel time.
