About this spot

This Tendai-sect temple is said to have been founded in 848 by Jikaku Daishi Ennin, and stands on a rise overlooking the town of Edosaki and the Ono River. In 1470, it was restored under the patronage of Tokihara Kagenari, the lord of Edosaki Castle, and in the Edo period it received a shogunal land grant from Tokugawa Ieyasu and was also recognized as a danrin, a Tendai-sect seat of learning. Long cherished by the local community, its grounds are quiet and calm, making it a spot where families can worship at a relaxed pace even in the heat of a summer afternoon.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Edosaki Shopping Center Pampu. Worshipping in the grounds is free. There can be a lot of insects in summer, so it's reassuring to bring insect repellent.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. A slightly calmer time in the afternoon is easiest for worshipping.
