About this spot

This street runs from Nagatoro Station on the Chichibu Railway toward the Iwadatami rocks along the Arakawa River. Lined with soba and Japanese restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops, as well as ticket counters for river boat rides and rafting, it's always lively with visitors. At the end of the street lies Iwadatami, a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument. Since the Funatama Festival lantern-floating takes place on the same Arakawa River that night, it's worth walking this street in daylight to take in the riverside scenery first.

Tips

Some parts of the rocky area can be slippery, so wearing comfortable walking shoes is recommended. When approaching the river, be cautious of rising water levels, and keep a close eye on small children.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. In the afternoon sunlight, the contrast between the rocks and the river is especially beautiful.
