Magical Nagatoro Funatama Festival with lanterns floating on the river
About this spot
Held on August 15, 2026, from 5:10 PM to 8:45 PM along the Arakawa River near Iwatatami. This traditional memorial service honors those lost to water and prays for river safety. As darkness falls, countless lanterns float on the river, creating a mystical band of light in the darkness unique to Nagatoro, surrounded by mountains and river. This long-standing local tradition combines quiet prayer with the cool summer night air along the riverside.
