This gassho-zukuri farmhouse, one of the largest in the Gokayama region, is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Beneath the thatched roof—as tall as a five-story building—are massive wooden beams stacked in layers, and the spacious attic once used for sericulture and saltpeter production is open to visitors. The display of daily objects arranged around the central hearth reveals the ingenuity of people who lived in these snowy mountain valleys. Located near Hakusan Shrine, the festival venue, it's the perfect place to begin your exploration of this region's way of life.

2026年9月25日から26日にかけて、上梨地区の白山宮を舞台に開催されるこきりこ祭りは、日本最古の民謡のひとつともいわれる「こきりこ節」を今に伝える五箇山を代表する祭りです。竹製の楽器「ささら」を鳴らしながら踊る古式ゆかしい舞は、雪深い山あいで生きてきた人々の祈りと結びついた伝統芸能で、国の重要無形民俗文化財にも指定されています。会場となる白山宮の境内には多くの見物客が訪れ、提灯の灯りに照らされた舞台で繰り広げられる踊りに見入ります。合掌造りの里の秋の夜を彩る、静かで奥深い祭りです。
Tips
山あいの神社のため、夜は駐車場や周辺道路が混み合うことがあります。時間に余裕を持って向かい、帰り道は懐中電灯を用意しておくと安心です。夜は気温が下がるので羽織ものを忘れずに。
Tips
Located very close to Hakusan Shrine. Be mindful of low ceilings in the attic spaces. The wooden structure stays relatively cool even in summer.
Best time to visit
Allow about 45 minutes. Early afternoon is ideal for a leisurely visit.
