Shiraishi Island Ferry Terminal (白石島フェリー乗り場)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This is the boat landing on Shiraishi Island (白石島) in the Kasaoka Islands, connected to the mainland's Kasaoka Port by regular ferries operated by Sanyo Kisen. Out on the deck, the calm waters typical of the Seto Inland Sea and the scenery of small islands passing by unfold before you, making the crossing itself part of the trip's enjoyment. About 10 kilometers in circumference, Shiraishi Island is designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty, with guesthouses and beach huts lining its shore. During the summer holiday season it bustles with visitors returning home and beachgoers alike, and it's a time when you can feel yourself shifting into island time.

Tips

Sailings aren't very frequent, so it's a good idea to check the timetable in advance. The deck is a popular spot on board, so don't forget sun protection.

Best time to visit

About a 40-minute boat trip. Taking an earlier afternoon sailing lets you spend more relaxed time on the island
