About this spot
This park, built on the grounds of Hanamaki Castle that once ruled the region, retains stone walls and earthen ramparts that quietly stand among the verdant greenery. Though known as a cherry blossom viewing spot, from summer through autumn it becomes a beloved gathering place for locals where the shade of trees offers pleasant respite. With wide grassy lawns, it's a perfect place to spend a relaxed family time before the festival.

花巻まつりは300年以上の歴史を誇る、岩手県内でも屈指の規模を持つ秋祭りです。2026年は9月11日から13日までの3日間、花巻市の中心市街地・上町からおまつり広場一帯を会場に開催されます。極彩色の彫刻と豪華な人形を飾った風流山車が街を練り歩き、勇壮な鹿踊りや神輿、郷土芸能が次々と登場する様子は圧巻。会場に隣接する花巻中央広場では14時から21時まで屋台村が開かれ、食べ歩きを楽しみながら祭りの熱気を味わえます。
Tips
会場周辺は夜になると交通規制がかかることがあるため、公共交通機関の利用がおすすめです。屋台村は現金対応の店が多いので小銭を用意しておくと安心。荒天時の開催可否は主催者の発表を確認してください。

Best time to visit
Approximately 50 minutes. During strong sunlight, choosing shaded areas makes for a more comfortable experience.
