The Suribasawa Crystal Andon Lantern Festival is a locally handmade summer festival held from in front of Suribasawa Station through the Suribasawa Shopping Street and Yotsukado Shopping Street in Daito-cho, Ichinoseki City. In 2026, it takes place over three nights, August 13 to 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening. Crystal andon lanterns made by local residents and children are lined up along the eaves of the shopping street, all lighting up together as dusk falls. Without the flash of big fireworks or drums, the sight of these small lights gently illuminating the night street has long been cherished locally as a symbol of summer in this mountain village. Take a leisurely walk with your family and feel the handmade warmth put into each individual lantern.
