A quiet mountain village summer festival where handmade crystal andon lanterns gently illuminate the shopping street
About this spot
The Surisawa Crystal Andon Festival is a community-made summer festival held from the Surisawa Station front through Surisawa Shopping Street and Yotsu-Kado Shopping Street in Daito Town, Ichinoseki City. In 2026, it runs for three days from August 13-15, with crystal andon lanterns made by local residents and children lined up along the shopping street eaves. As the sun sets, lights come on simultaneously. Unlike large-scale festivals with impressive fireworks or drums, the sight of small lights gently illuminating the night streets has long been cherished by the community as a signature summer tradition of mountain villages. Walk slowly with your family and feel the handmade warmth embedded in each andon lantern.
