People in yukata form circles and dance—Miyaji's iconic summer evening event

About this spot

A bon dance evening held annually in summer on the World Heritage island of Miyaji. Lanterns light the area from the approach to Itsukushima Shrine to Daishouin Beach, where locals and visitors form circles and dance together. The shrine approach, bustling with pilgrims during the day, transforms at night under the sounds of drums and gentle bon dance music, revealing a quiet, magical side. Dancing by the cool sea breeze on a summer night is a special experience unique to Miyaji.
