Historic Townscape from the Edo Period with White-Walled Storehouses and Old Merchant Houses
About this spot
A merchant town below Nagoya Castle dating from the Edo period. Its name is believed to come from the practice of widening the road to four ken (about 7 meters) to prevent the spread of fires. White-walled storehouses and latticed merchant houses still line the street, and the area retains a strong sense of townscape from the Edo through Showa periods in Nagoya's city center. Cafes and gift shops utilizing storehouses dot the area, adding to the charm of taking detours while strolling. As it borders the Entsuji shopping street, it's an ideal spot for an evening walk before heading to the Tanabata festival.

名古屋市西区の円頓寺商店街で毎年夏に開かれる、地域に根ざした七夕まつりです。2026年は7月29日(水)から8月2日(日)までの開催で、その初日を訪れます。アーケード沿いには色とりどりの七夕飾りが天井を埋め尽くすように吊るされ、通りの両側には食べ歩きや金魚すくいなどの屋台が並びます。昭和レトロな商店街の雰囲気と七夕飾りが織りなす景色は写真映えも抜群で、地元の人からの人気も高いお祭りです。日中に訪れた名古屋城や四間道の歴史散策の余韻を残しながら、夜は屋台をめぐって商店街らしい夏祭りを存分に楽しみましょう。
Tips
祭り期間中は歩行者天国になり大変混雑するため、ベビーカーでの移動はゆとりを持って。屋台は現金での支払いが基本のため、小銭を多めに用意しておくと安心です。近隣のコインパーキングは早い時間に満車になりやすいため、公共交通機関の利用がおすすめです。

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as there are cobblestones and many old buildings. Be mindful of pedestrian traffic when taking photos, as some paths are narrow. There are few shaded areas to escape the sun, so a hat is recommended for summer.
