Tanabata Decorations and Food Stalls Line the Arcade—Experience Opening Day Excitement
About this spot
A community-rooted Tanabata festival held every summer at Entsuji shopping street in Nishi Ward, Nagoya. In 2026, the festival runs from July 29 (Wednesday) through August 2 (Sunday), and you're visiting on opening day. Colorful Tanabata decorations hang from the arcade ceiling, and food stalls line both sides of the street. The Showa-retro shopping street atmosphere combined with Tanabata decorations creates a photogenic scene and is popular with locals. As you carry the lingering sense of historical exploration from Nagoya Castle and Shikandou, enjoy the shopping street's summer festival atmosphere to the fullest in the evening.

Turn this into a day plan with stall time includedTips
During the festival, the street becomes a pedestrian zone and gets very crowded; navigate with a stroller at a leisurely pace. Food stalls primarily accept cash, so prepare extra small coins. Nearby coin parking lots fill up early, so public transportation is recommended.
Best time to visit
Arrive around 5 PM. The most spectacular time is 6 PM and later when lights begin to illuminate the Tanabata decorations.
