The Nagoya Castle Summer Festival is held every summer at Nagoya Castle, the city's symbol. In 2026 it runs from Saturday, August 8 to Sunday, August 16, and this visit is to the opening day. A food area called Shachi Shokudo is set up on the grounds, letting you enjoy dinner while spending the evening within the castle grounds. Once the sun sets, the castle keep is lit up, creating a fantastical scene as the golden shachihoko ornaments seem to float against the night sky. Enjoy, as a family, the nighttime face of Nagoya Castle, so different from the Western building, shrines, and garden you visited earlier in the day.

Tips

The food area can get crowded from evening onward, so it's a good idea to secure a seat and order early. Some areas within the castle grounds get dark at night, so wear comfortable walking shoes and watch your step. Nearby parking lots tend to fill up quickly, so using public transportation is the safer choice.
