About this spot

This is the head temple of the Hokkeshu Jinmon-ryu sect, nationally known for its Setsubun oni-odori demon dance. Its vast precincts are lined with temple buildings such as the main gate, a bell tower, and a two-story pagoda. With a long history as the center of faith in Sanjo, the precincts flow with quiet time throughout the four seasons, and are just the right scale for a leisurely walk after your experience at the Kaji Dojo. Walking through the summer greenery of the grounds, you can touch on the history of Sanjo.

Tips

The precincts are spacious, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Some areas have little shade in summer, so remember to stay hydrated. The hours when the inside of the Oni-do can be viewed may be limited, so it is reassuring to check in advance.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes. The calm hours of the afternoon are good for a leisurely visit.
