The 2026 Tochio Festival runs for two days on August 22-23, with Honmachi Street and its surroundings in Tochio district, Nagaoka as the venue. At night, the street surrounded by mountains is illuminated and transforms into a summer festival stage where locals and families gather. The 22nd, the opening day, marks the beginning of festival excitement. After enjoying Tochio's characteristic landscapes and tastes during the day—the castle ruins, ancient trees, and famous abura-age—arriving at the evening festival brings a warm atmosphere unique to a mountain-valley town.

Vehicle traffic may be restricted around the festival venue during the festival period. Temperatures drop at night in the mountains, so bringing a light jacket is recommended.

Best time to visit

From 5 PM opening. From 6 PM onwards when dusk falls and lights come on, the festival atmosphere is at its most vibrant.
