According to local lore, a kappa once lived in a pond here and extinguished a fire by dousing it with water—a story that has earned the shrine reverence for fire protection and matchmaking blessings. Its convenient location right beside the shopping street makes it easy to visit, and children especially enjoy searching for the kappa statues within the grounds.
