A shrine nestled atop a small hill in the heart of the city, famous for its steep front stone steps known as the "Success Stone Steps." According to Edo-period legend, a samurai rode his horse up these steps, and those who reach the top are said to enjoy blessings of business prosperity and career advancement. The shrine grounds are surrounded by trees and offer a peaceful atmosphere remarkably removed from urban surroundings. The sense of accomplishment from reaching the top and the view of the area below add to its appeal.

Tips

The steps are steep; younger children should hold hands. Elevator access is also available. Admission is free.

Best time to visit

Allow about 40 minutes. Stay hydrated before climbing the steps.
