Snorkeling and swimming at a shallow beach famous for star-shaped sand
About this spot
A beach in the Sonai area of Iriomote Island known for its 'star sand'—shells of foraminifera shaped like stars. With shallow, calm waters, it's safe for small children to swim and play, and snorkeling offers close-up views of tropical fish. The expansive white sand and emerald waters symbolize Iriomote Island's natural beauty.

Date & time: 7/28 (Tue)–7/29 (Wed) Time TBA
Venue:
Tips
Tips
There's minimal shade, so use an umbrella or hat for sun protection. Many beaches prohibit taking star sand as souvenirs—admire them instead. Snorkeling equipment rental is often available.
Best time to visit
About 50 minutes. The intense sun means excellent water clarity.
